What is in Your Acne Cream?

Acne creams contain a combination of agents including salicylic acid, resorcinol and sulfur that relieve the symptoms of acne and help control future outbreaks.

Salicylic acid corrects the shedding of abnormal skin cells and unclogs pores to prevent the onset of acne. It does not kill acne causing bacteria. Skin irritation is the most common side effect to this acne treatment cream ingredient.

Resorcinol helps breakdown the hard pus material in whiteheads and blackheads enabling the pores to be cleansed and opened to heal. It is often combined with sulfur.

Be sure to follow the instructions with any topical acne cream and contact your physician for any side effects other than mild irritation or dryness. A regimen of proper diet and skin care are essential to controlling acne.
