A classic children’s fairy tale like The Beauty and the Beast and others like it set in palaces and other grand places can remind one of the traditional use of chandeliers. They have been decorative central fixtures made to give light to places of social gathering. In these days of the movie Ever After, however, they are not confined to the royal ball but can also be found in many unexpected places in the home.

Chandeliers are often used for general lighting purposes, with the additional benefit of providing aesthetic value to a room. Most of the time, their bulbs can be dimmed to avoid too much brightness and glare.

Many unconventional materials like capiz shells are now widely used as alternative ornaments to Hispanic and oriental themed houses. Even metal and wood can now be manipulated to make artistic renditions of more traditional versions like an Italian chandelier. Aside from these, wine glass, fruit-shaped accessories and even cartoon characters are now used as hanging light appendages.

Many online stores offer the latest designs and varieties. They make it possible to make great design choices. But before finally filling in a payment form, there are some things to think about. The height of the ceiling is one of the most important things to find out first, because it would be ridiculous to have the dangling pieces hanging just above the head as one walks under them.

If it will be placed in the dining room, the size and design should match the table appropriately. If the room is a Gothic-style bedroom, then there is good sense in looking for a design that can complement it. There should be enough commonalities between the room and the source of light.

The safety of any home should be considered especially when deciding to hang one of these from the ceiling. Though there is less probability of falling bulbs in these days of enhanced technology, utmost care should still be applied when installing them. Their weight should be proportional to the screws and other parts that would be in contact with the wooden or concrete surface.
