Step 1: Plan Your Lawn

The planning stage of lawn and garden care is actually easier said than done. There are many factors to consider, least of which is the size of your intended lawn and its shape. Being aware of these two things before and will give you the knowledge to determine the kind and extent of the maintenance your yard will require and also it’s watering needs.

Size: Make sure that you get the dimensions of your lawn so you know exactly how many square feet of coverage is required.

Shape and Layout: Select the way you want your lawn laid out, one that allows you to mow without stopping or backing up. You should avoid making sharp curves and corners, while including borders and the layout the will provide you with an easier mowing experience.

Step 2: Pick Out the Grass

The type of grass you choose is another important step in the garden and lawn care. You need to make sure that your grass is compatible with the soil for your region. You can find out what type of soil is in your region by going to your local extension office, and they will provide you with a guide of the different types of grass which grow in that region.

After years of rendering lawn and garden, we have observed that some types of grasses, such as Kentucky bluegrass, fescue grass, and rye grass, prefer cool northern weather. there are also some that like the hotter weather of the Southern climates, like the Bermuda, zoysia, and St. Augustine. If you’re unsure about your region, or have any doubts, but a safe bet would be to use tall fescue which is known to grow in areas where the regions merge together.

Step 3: Test the Soil

A soil test is the next most important aspect of lawn and garden care. There are many different kinds of soil and each type may have different levels of acidity and nutrient content. In order to get the right fertilizer for your soil type, you need to get your soil tested first.

After you test the soil, correct the problem accordingly. The use of  organic material is commonly recommended to raise the nutrient levels in your soil. However though, if you’re wishing to adjust the soil’s acidity level to a balanced state then you will find that lawn and garden care specialists recommend using lime and sulfur to do this. Simply distribute a 2 to
three inch or 5 to eight centimeter bed of organic nutrient over the lawn and incorporate it to 6 to 9 inches or fifteen to twenty three cm into the dirt.

Step 4: Install a Sprinkler System

While your grass doesn’t need water constantly, it remains to be a necessity for its life and growth. As you can see now, having a sprinkler system is vitally important aspect of lawn of  garden care. This is especially significant if you live in an area where the growing season is naturally dry. If you live where summer rainfall is normally abundant, buried sprinklers are optional but convenient.
