There are many different factors that contribute to sensitive teeth, a problem that plagues adults from the age of 25-30 years. Sensitive teeth occur when the root of a tooth is exposed because the dentin, or the soft part of the tooth, has worn away.

A simple reason why a root could be exposed is because the patient is brushing their teeth to hard. This causes the gums to recede, so that, sometimes, the root is exposed at the bottom of the tooth. Teeth grinding is another simple reason why the roots could be exposed. The teeth have been ground down to the soft part of the tooth. Another reason is because of tooth decay. A dentist in Milpitas can help the patient treat these problems, so there is no more pain with the mouth.

It is not the dentin that makes the tooth sensitive. The roots of the tooth are where the nerves are located. These nerves grown in tubules, which reach to the soft pulp inside the tooth. There are tubules in the area of the dentin, and these tubules lead to the pulp and nerves of the tooth, where there can be pain if this area is exposed to hot or cold foods, and lots of pressure.

A Milpitas dentist can devise a treatment plan that will best help the patient. If the problem is hard tooth brushing, the patient should invest in a soft bristle tooth brush, and maybe switch over to a desensitizing tooth paste for a while. This will reduce the feeling (meaning, how sensitive it is) in the exposed nerves. If the patient is grinding his or her teeth, then a mouth guard can be made by the dentist to be used at night. It will be molded to the teeth, and will stop the hard minerals from being ground down to the dentin. If it is tooth decay, a dentist’s profession is to treat teeth. With these few simple treatments, sensitive teeth will no longer be a problem, and the patient will feel the comfort of a healthy mouth.
