The green movement that is slowly going to transform our current social and economic stalemate to a new economy has already made great strides in certain areas of our lives. Energy is more available to power our homes that wasn’t accessible in the past. Things like wind and solar energy can be tapped for residential use that were only available to commercial industry not too long ago. Now, even home fabrics and materials are making the switch to more green and sustainably grown and harvested materials. Like the title of this article mentions, things like organic cottons and hemp futon covers are available now to homeowner’s looking for that healthier material. The beauty of a material like hemp is that it is a plant that can be harvested and then allowed to re-grow in a short period of time. Traditional fabrics like cotton, even if they only make enough fabric for a futon cover are still grown with toxic chemicals that harm the land on which they are grown. Futon covers are a really small part of this larger dynamic that is changing the climate of our economy, but if you have to get new ones, why not make your next cover for your futon made with organic cotton or hemp.
