Do Dental Veneers Look Bulky?

If you were asked to name a person whose smile you envy, you would probably be quick to name a celebrity or someone you know that’s had some spectacular dental work done. For each awe-inspiring smile you may see on television and in magazines, brought to you by cosmetic dentistry, there are a countless number of others you could have sworn looked better in the before picture. When it comes to dental veneers, there are more than enough horror stories to go around. You hear of certain patients complaining that their veneers fell off, look too bulky, or began to succumb to tooth sensitivity shortly after installation. If you were to become personally familiar with these stories, you would notice a common factor between each – a hasty job at looking for a cosmetic dentist.

The major danger with aesthetic dentistry is in the fact that it is not truly regarded as a profession. Any dentist fresh out of dental school can offer their patients veneers, ultra thin Lumineers dental veneers, crowns, tooth whitening and a plethora of other procedures without having an inking of knowledge in the discipline, and subsequently the complexities involved with each individual procedure. People don’t seem to know this, and treat the search process as if they were shopping for a digital camera or purse – a bargain hunting adventure if you will. This is to their detriment in the end when they are utterly dissatisfied with the results.

Dental veneers respond very poorly to mistakes in installation technique. If insufficient tooth enamel is removed, they can very well fail prematurely as the patient is eating or otherwise exerting force on the veneers. An immediate indication of inadequate prep work is a bulky appearance to the veneers. They look as if they protrude too far outwards than the teeth normally would. This effect is commonly found in patients that get dental Lumineers in Louisiana and many other parts of the country, simply because inexperienced cosmetic dentists figure they might be easier to install. If after your cosmetic dentist has finished installing you veneers you notice this unnatural appearance, you have very right to ask that they fix it. Failure to insist will leave you stuck with an aesthetically lacking smile and feeling several thousand dollars lighter.

Another sign of inexperience is failure to remove excess amounts of bonding cement between the teeth, and on the bottom edge of the veneers. Although it may not be very apparent fresh out of the cosmetic dentist’s office, once the cement gets a chance to stain and creates an outline around your veneer, you would have wished that you spent more time looking for a dentist. All in all, porcelain veneers shouldn’t look bulky or possess any characteristic not known to the teeth. Taking your time in finding a provider is the missing link in getting spectacular results with cosmetic dentistry.
