Firefighters encounter a verity of challenges in their job, which they deal with in a multiplicity of ways. They deliver services in their area of residence, provide medical assistance in a variety of, emergencies, and respond quickly to events that need emergency intervention. Firefighters also participate in public safety campaigns and education and conduct regular inspections. People who aspire to become firefighters should keep their aspirations alive by keeping fit. The reason for this is that firefighting is an occupation that demands rigorous training and an unwavering endeavor to keep healthy and maintain an attractive body shape. During recruit selection exercises, fire departments evaluate individuals based on their physical characteristics. They give examinations that evaluate recruits’ ability to handle pressurized hoses, demolish compact doors and closely related structures, as well as a host of other examinations that assess the recruits’ level of aptitude and physical competence. It is therefore imperative that one cultivates these skills prior to going for selection.

The firefighter career path begins when one goes to school and learns several subjects. At this level, it is important to learn an additional international language since it is important for communication in emergency settings particularly where the firefighters speak different languages. After high school education, one should take further education and training, particularly an advanced fire fighting or first aid training course. Nonetheless, many firefighting departments prefer recruits with a degree in fire science.

One has to finish the firefighting training course adequately and do the relevant examination. After the exam, the trainee needs to undergo probationary employment for the purpose of putting the skills gathered into practice. The internship lasts between three and six months, after which one is able to seek for employment with a firefighting department.
