For boys from ages 8 to 12, there might just be no better place to play than outdoors. Be it a wooded pond or a mighty river with sandy banks, these familiar boyhood destinations are not just good fun, but they offer excellent spots for fishing and catching critters such as frogs, turtles, and the like. Many boys – as well as some little girls – enjoy catching tiny turtles and frogs to put on display in goldfish bowls once they get home, almost always against their mother’s objections. Occasionally, even snakes enter the mix while other days it might be something as simple as an earthworm or ant hill. And of course, there’s always the chance to go swimming, have a fake wrestling match, or play an impromptu game of keep away or hide and seek. Such is the life of a ten year old boy and we would all do well to consider, every so often, how much simpler and easier to handle life was back when we were innocent kids.
